One of the first and most common questions clients ask us is: "Great, we"ve scheduled a session, but tell me, how long does apartment or villa photography take? " It"s a perfectly logical question – you want to know how much time you need to set aside in your schedule. The answer, as with many things in life, is: it depends on several key factors. In this guide, we"ll thoroughly review everything that influences the duration of your property"s photoshoot so you know exactly what to expect on the day of the shoot. Key Factors Affecting Photoshoot Duration Not all properties are the same, and therefore, not every photoshoot takes the same amount of time. The time spent on location depends on a combination of the property"s size, its preparedness, and the scope of services you"ve chosen. Property Size and Type (Square Footage) The most obvious factor is the size of the space itself. It"s logical that photographing a 30-square-meter studio will take significantly less time than photographing a luxurious three-story villa with five bedrooms, a garden, and a pool. Each room requires careful framing, lighting setup, and shooting from multiple angles to achieve the best possible result. The more rooms and details there are to capture, the more time is needed. Property Preparedness This is the factor you can influence the most and thus directly shorten the session duration. Arriving at a impeccably clean, tidy, and decluttered space allows us to get straight to work – photographing. If the photographer has to move furniture, clear personal items, clean surfaces, or straighten bedding, the shooting time can significantly extend. That"s why we always emphasize the importance of preparation. For the best results, read our guide on how to thoroughly prepare your property before our arrival. Additional Services: Drone, Video, and 360° Tours Basic interior and exterior photography is one thing, but if you want a complete package that will make your property stand out from the crowd, additional services also require additional time. Drone footage (aerial photos): Requires safety checks, flight path planning, and waiting for ideal lighting conditions. On average, adds 30 to 60 minutes to the session. Video tours: Video shooting is more complex than photography, requiring stabilizers and multiple takes to get smooth and attractive shots. Can extend the session by an hour or two. 360° virtual tours: Require shooting a series of photos with special equipment at precisely defined points in each room, which can add a significant amount of time, depending on the size of the property. How Long Does Apartment or Villa Photography Take? Concrete Estimates To give you a more concrete idea, here are average estimates for photoshoot duration, based on our experience in Istria. These estimates include standard interior and exterior photography (without additional services like drones). Studio or small apartment (up to 35 m²): 20-30 minutes. One-bedroom or two-bedroom apartment (40 - 75 m²): 30 min. Larger holiday house or villa without a pool (100 - 200 m²): approx. 1 hour. Luxury villa with a pool and large garden (200+ m²): approx. 2 hours. Phases of Photography: What to Expect on Shoot Day? You might be wondering what exactly we do all that time? The process of professional photography isn"t just "snapping pictures." It"s a methodical process consisting of several phases, and it is precisely this dedication to detail that is the key difference between a professional photographer and taking photos with a phone . 1. Briefing and Walk-through Upon arrival, we"ll first walk through the entire property with you. We want to hear what you believe are the key advantages of the space and if there"s anything specific you want to highlight. This initial walk-through helps us create a mental map and plan the shooting sequence. 2. Equipment Setup and Scene Staging After planning, we set up the equipment. This includes tripods, the camera with the appropriate wide-angle lens, and most importantly, lighting. We use external flashes to illuminate the space evenly, emphasize textures, and obtain bright, airy, and inviting photos. In this phase, we also make final small adjustments in the space – aligning pillows, moving remote controls, and ensuring every detail is in its place. 3. "Shooting": Room by Room (the majority of the time) This is the core of the process. We photograph each key room from multiple angles to capture its functionality and atmosphere. For each scene, we often take multiple photos with different light settings (a technique known as "flambient") which we then combine into one perfectly lit photo in post-production. This is what gives the photos a professional, "magazine" look. 4. Final Check Before packing up the equipment, we quickly review the captured photos on the camera screen to ensure we"ve recorded everything needed and that there are no omissions. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Do I need to be present throughout the entire photoshoot? We recommend you be present at the beginning, during the first walk-through, so we can go through all the details together. After that, if the property is fully prepared, you are free to leave and attend to your obligations. We will notify you when we are nearing completion. Trust and good preparation are key! What if the weather is bad on the day of the shoot? We are flexible. If heavy rain or cloudy, gloomy weather is forecast, we will usually, in agreement with you, reschedule the session for a day or two to get good light. Interiors can sometimes be shot in poorer weather, but for exteriors and pools, sun makes a huge difference. Your success is our success, so we always aim for ideal conditions. How many photos do I receive and why is that important? Our goal is not to deliver hundreds of average photos, but a carefully selected set (usually between 25 and 50 depending on the package) of high-quality, impressive photos that will sell your property. Each photo is carefully processed and optimized for the web. It is precisely in this selection and quality that the true value of investing in professional photos lies – they tell a story and attract guests at first glance.
